Redifining the kitchen space

The future of the kitchen was once imagined as increasingly technological, but lifestyles can take unexpected turns. Even in a global metropolis, in big residential buildings with their smaller living units, the desire to share the ritual of food remains. For those not wanting to give up the pleasure of cooking for themselves and their guests, the new concept of the "hidden" kitchen has been invented. At different times of the day, it appears and disappears behind an easy-to-open architectural wall that houses equipment and tools. Externally finished with fine wood panelling and made to measure, the wall itself becomes a furnishing element that dialogues beautifully with our favourite furniture - chairs, tables, sofas - just like people.

The wood-wall panelling acts as filter and solid divider between the different areas in the home and becomes the main player of furnishings that meet the changing needs of home living in new residential units. The kitchen in the middle of the apartment, is hidden behind doors that are part of the fossil oak panelling. Italia in stainless steel furnishes the kitchen with a centrally positioned working zone, new 31 mm thick worktop with 12 mm recess, 6 mm front edge and base units raised above floor level. The new Artusi hood, 70 cm deep and 24 tall, with protective tempered glass, has been conceived to guarantee optimum extraction (780 m3/h). Between the hood and the worktop, there is room for the Mensolinea shelf with wooden accessories, again in fossil oak and complete with LED lighting.

To meet these different requirements we have developed more flexible product systems, with the concept of Closet (...): a closed space with a series of doors that disappear as they open, to house dedicated work zones. This offers the possibility of a very (...) hidden kitchen, where function, equipment and gourmet knowhow, so to say, exists but is kept in a limited area, out of sight when not in use.

The fossil oak wood panelling, 270 cm tall, together with the new Modus system of 180┬░ horizontal folding doors (version with 3 doors measuring 40.6 cm each side), allows use of work, functional or private areas in the home, depending on need and daily habits: by revealing or hiding them from sight or guests, without any interruptions. The 4 cm thick doors are available in all the different kinds of wood in the Collection. Inside Closet, the work area comprises 4 base units with accessories: 60 cm internal drawers with teak fronts, new exclusive accessories of teak and steel that can be assembled to meet functional requirements, deep drawers and waste bin for recycling. The worktop is 70 cm deep and 244 cm long and houses sink, induction hob, walnut wood chopping board and paperstone grid that slides inside the drip guard, back panel featuring Mensolinea shelf and new accessories in wood. On the left-hand side is the built-in oven, and on the right the refrigerator column.

The Modus door, with 10 cm vertical slats, comes in all the NTF wood options in the Collection: natural oak, smoked oak, fossil oak, teak, American black walnut, walnut colour, elm, chestnut, with metal handle in stainless steel and bronze finish. Standard heights are 234 and 252 cm but special heights are also available to meet functional and design needs.
